Liquid attractants are one of the simplest ways to change the attraction profile of a carp bait without rebuilding your entire approach. Used carefully, they can be added to boilies, pellets, particles, hookbaits and loose-feed mixes.
What is a carp bait liquid attractant?
A liquid attractant is a bait additive designed to coat or soak into bait and introduce extra flavour, aroma or soluble attraction. Different products behave differently, so always follow the directions on the bottle rather than assuming every liquid should be used in the same quantity.
1. Coating boilies
Put the amount of boilies you need into a clean bait tub. Add a small amount of liquid, close the lid and roll the bait until the coating is even. Let it rest before deciding whether another layer is needed. Our guide to boosting boilies covers this in more detail.
2. Boosting pellets
Pellets have a large surface area and can take on liquid quickly. Add a controlled amount, mix thoroughly and allow them to rest before use. Avoid pouring so much on that the bait becomes difficult to handle.
3. Adding liquid to particles and spod mixes
Liquid attractant can be distributed through particles or a spod mix to change the overall flavour profile. Add it gradually while mixing so that one area is not overloaded.
4. Preparing hookbaits
Keep a few hookbaits in a separate tub and apply liquid to them independently. This lets you create a different attraction level around the hookbait without changing the whole feed mix.
5. Using liquid with PVA
Only use a liquid with PVA when the product is specifically described as compatible. If you are unsure, read our PVA-friendly liquids guide and carry out a small margin test.
Which flavour should you choose?
The Bear Tackle Ooze range currently gives you three distinct directions: Krill for a marine profile, Squid & Garlic for a strong savoury profile, and Pineapple for a bright fruity alternative.
Start with less, then build
The most common mistake is using more liquid than necessary. Start with a light coating, mix thoroughly and judge the bait before adding more. A repeatable preparation method is more useful than simply saturating the bait.
